Restoration Intangible Cultural Heritage Experiential Studio is planning to host an event on Chinese Frog Fastener making at Suzhou ICH Shop Dongbei Street Branch (非一般的甄选铺·东北街店) this Saturday (May15).
Cheongsam (also qipao) boasts a long history and is one of the traditional Chinese costumes that can best showcase the grace and elegance of oriental women. It used to be worn as the “national dress” by Chinese women in the early 20th century and was popular in Suzhou back then, where there were an array of tailor shops and Suzhou embroidery shops. Handmade cheongsam was included in the sixth batch of Suzhou’s intangible cultural heritage list in 2013.
Feng Ying, municipal-level representative inheritor of intangible cultural heritage of handmade cheongsam, masters its making techniques, has a profound understanding of the varieties and features of its fabrics, and is well versed in designing and making customized cheongsams for different women.
Feng Ying will be invited to introduce the history and culture of handmade cheongsam and explain its making techniques. Participants will experience the making of Chinese frog and feel the charm of traditional Chinese costumes.
Those who are unable to attend the event can watch it live-streamed through Douyin account FeiyibanFeiyi. Currently, Fengying Qipao is exhibiting and selling its products at Suzhou ICH Shop Dongbei Street Branch for a week. Don’t miss out!
