A Huqiu three-flower cultural event and a photo competition opened yesterday at the Huqiu scenic area虎丘山风景名胜区 and will last through August 25.
The three flowers refer to jasmines, white magnolia flowers and sour orange flowers, whose plantation history dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279). They routinely bloom from May to August, standing as a cultural symbol of Suzhou with unique charm.
Flower Parade
Rickshaws decorated with the three flowers will help visitors gain insights into the traditional flower customs of Huqiu in the good old days.
Encounter with Poet Su Shi
During the event, a man dressed up as Su Shi, a poet and cultural icon from the Song Dynasty and a woman as the Huqiu flower goddess sell lotus seedpods at stations of SRT Line 6 and Huqiu scenic area with interactive content to bring joy to travelers.
Cool Summer Booths
Cool booths are set up at the scenic area, where visitors can buy lotion products made from the three flowers, drinks, and seasonal snacks and have an immersive experience of the cool of summer.
Three-flower-themed Ice Cream
The scenic area also rolls out three-flower-themed ice creams. A bite of ice cream in the cool and quiet garden offers an escape from the scorching heat, bringing flavour of picturesque Jiangnan to visitors.
Photo Exhibition
Ta Ying Yuan (Pagoda Reflection Garden)虎丘山风景区-塔影园 also launches a photo exhibition to portray Huqiu in four seasons. Besides, the first “Huqiu Cup” photo contest is held in a bid to showcase the unique charm of the centuries-old Huqiu scenic area through the lenses of photography enthusiasts.
