A Lullaby of Starlight and Dreams, an online short series based on the intangible cultural heritage of Suzhou and protection of the ancient city, was broadcast during prime time on both Hunan TV and Suzhou TV Channel 1 on June 24, marking the first time that a short drama has made it into the prime-time programme broadcast on Hunan TV. The full episode has also been released on meWATCH in Singapore in mid-June and will be on MediaCorp Channel 8 on July 23.
The nine-episode short series, with each lasting for 16 minutes, revolves around the inheritance and innovation of Suzhou fans and ancient city protection. It depicts the infusion of the ancient and elegant side and the modernity of Suzhou based upon the history and culture of the renowned city and the 30-year development of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP).
On June 13, this Suzhou-made production debuted on meWATCH, a streaming-media platform of Media Corp which is Singapore’s largest content creator and national media network, bringing a cool breeze of Suzhou to overseas audiences. Singaporean viewers have given a thumbs-up to the mini-drama for its camera language, music production, actor’s performance, Suzhou’s intangible cultural heritage, architecture, and culinary delights, among others.
Lin Liangfa, former senior consultant at a division of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, had been long engaged in the planning and construction of SIP. After the online release of the short series in Singapore, he watched it immediately, saying, “It reminds me of my previous work in Suzhou and the old friends. Starting from scratch to what it has become now, Suzhou and SIP have witnessed remarkable changes.”
