Taste Jiangnan culture and admire Suzhou crafts. What will happen when Suzhou embroidery meets Suzhou Fan?
Suzhou Embroidery, one of the four most famous embroideries in China, originated in Suzhou and has a history of more than 2,500 years. Artists normally use one threaded needle to work on different patterns on different fabrics. Among others, “double-sided embroidery” is the best-known one and now it has evolved into double-sided embroidery with different colors, patterns, and needle stitches. It was included in the national-level intangible cultural heritage list (first batch) in 2006.
Suzhou Fan, falling into three types: folding fan, sandalwood fan, and silk palace fan, is also known as Ya Shan (elegant fan). It has gained popularity among people both at home and abroad since early 20th century. The making technique of Suzhou Fan was included in the national-level intangible cultural heritage list in 2006.
