The Chinese Athletics Association announced the list of participants for the athletics events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last night. Four athletes from Suzhou were included: Shi Yuhao in the men’s long jump, Wang Zhen in the men’s high jump, Zhao Jie in the women’s hammer throw and Chen Jinfeng, a substitute in the men’s 4×100 relay. In total, six athletes from Suzhou will compete at Paris 2024, with the other two being Sheng Lihao in shooting and He Bingjiao in badminton.
Shi Yuhao, born in September 1998, is the Asian junior record holder in men’s long jump and was selected into the national team in 2016. In 2018, he won gold at the Asian Indoor Track and Field Championships and the runner-up at the Diamond League Shanghai. In 2023, he won the third place in the men’s long jump of the 19th Asian Games and the first place in the men’s 100-meter relay. In April, he won bronze in the men’s long jump at the Yangtze River Delta Athletics Diamond Gala.
Wang Zhen, born in October 2001, set his personal best of 2.32 meters in winning the Nanjing Stop of the China Athletics Street Tour in 2023, qualifying for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In June, Wang jumped 2.27 meters and defended his title at the Xi’an Stop of the China Athletics Street Tour.
Zhao Jie, born in October 2002, won the women’s hammer throw at the Asian Athletics Championships and silver in the Asian Games in 2023. At the 2023 World Athletics Championships, she achieved a personal best throw of 73.23 meters, reaching the final round. In April, she set a new personal best by throwing 75.24 meters at the Athletics Throwing Event Group Match, meeting the qualification standard for the Olympics.
Chen Jinfeng, born in 2004, set his personal best of 20.86 seconds in the preliminary round of men’s 200 meters at the Zhaoqing leg of the 2023 National Athletics Grand Prix.
Sheng Lihao, born in December 2004, won the silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 10m air rifle event and clinched the gold medal with a world record of 253.3 points in the men’s 10m air rifle at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
He Bingjiao, born in March 1997, participated in the Olympics for the first time in 2021 and finished fourth in women’s singles. In 2022, He won the women’s singles championship at the BWF World Tour French Open.
