Tang Chao, a junior majoring in Architectural Engineering at XJTLU, was recently awarded Honorable Mention for his work “Ticino Meet+” in the TerraViva Competitions.
Mainly directed to students, young creatives and professionals, TerraViva Competitions, active since 2015, collaborates with Politecnico di Milano university and works as a cultural hub focused on innovative ideas linked to design, architecture and urbanism.
Idroscalo, an abandoned hangar on Ticino River built some 100 years ago, boasts high historical and artistic value as well as unique architectural typology. Due to its worrying state of decay, the hangar is desperately in need of rehabilitation. It is for this reason that the government of Pavia host the competition, encouraging designers to transform the ancestral guardian of the river into an everyday community hub.
“When designing Ticino Meet+, I tried to restore the simplicity of the building. With the expertise I learned I paid more attention to practicality, so the final design could be simple and cater to our daily life,” said Tang Chao.
