Jiangsu province held a culture and tourism promotion event at the Tenjin Central Park in Fukuoka, Japan on 18th June. In the form of a night market, the event allowed visitors to experience the charm and cultural heritage of Jiangsu through performances, intangible cultural heritage, and delicacies.
Suzhou, a city famous for silk, showcased various silk cultural and creative products. For example, the handmade silk frog knots ingeniously blend elements of peonies and cherry blossoms, symbolizing the long-standing cultural exchanges between China and Japan. In the tea tasting area, the fragrance of Suzhou’s Biluochun tea intertwined with the mellow flavor of Fukuoka’s Yamecha. Kunqu opera and guqin (a seven-stringed plucked instrument) performances were also highly appreciated by the Japanese citizens.
A Fukuoka citizen expressed that the event gave him a new understanding of Suzhou, who was not only attracted by the beautiful scenery but also deeply touched by its profound cultural heritage. He hoped to have the opportunity to visit Suzhou in the future and personally experience the water town lifestyle.
The culture and tourism promotion in Japan was preceded by a similar event held by Jiangsu in Seoul, South Korea on 17th June.
Suzhou introduced 10 measures to promote inbound tourism last month. With these tourism promotion events as an opportunity, the city once again extends a sincere invitation to the world, welcoming visitors from all over to come here to experience Jiangnan culture.
