The Ribbon Park, or Huaqiao Youth Urban Park花桥青年城市公园, has been granted the title of 2024 Platinum Winner of the London Design Awards recently.
Presented by the International Awards Associate (IAA), the London Design Awards is an international competition that recognizes exceptional designs and outstanding creative projects worldwide.
The park covers an area of about 23,000 square meters. The phase-one project was established and opened to the public in June 2022, equipped with basketball courts, intelligent washrooms, fitness trails, waterfront paths, fitness spaces, and outdoor lawn spaces. The phase-two project was completed this March and added a series of child- and youth-friendly facilities, enriching illumination at night and amounts of green. The upgrades further promote the services of supporting facilities and inject more vitality into the place.
The park’s design comes from Water Sleeves—elongated white silk extensions from the cuffs of opera garments—commonly used in Kunqu opera. With a topographical diversity, this image is incorporated into the park and the ribbon gracefully weaves through the park, offering organic landscape experiences.
Apart from varying sports facilities, the park is equipped with special landscape viewing shelters and seating areas for nearby residents. Inside the park are over 100 Tokyo cherry trees. Color-leaf trees include American Red Maple, Chinese pistache, and Chinese tallowtree, forming splendid and colorful natural landscapes.
