Museums across Suzhou are beginning to reopen their doors to the public with a series of exhibitions being held. Visitors are advised to make reservations in advance, follow personal prevention measures, and have negative COVID test results as required.
Covered into Wood Huang Yongyu’s Prints Exhibition
Venue: Contemporary Art Galleries, Suzhou Museum苏州博物馆
Date: May 18 – July 24
The exhibition displays a total of 78 pieces (sets) of woodblock prints and woodcut blocks of Mr. Huang Yongyu in a span of half a century from 1940s to 1990s. The exhibits mainly cover woodblock illustrations of classic literary works, including fictions, poems and fables, as well as some intriguing and lifelike printmaking portraits and a series of topics reflecting the major social events and development of the People’s Republic of China.
Suzhou Urban Construction Museum to open next week
Based on the Pan’s Residence on Weidaoguanqian, Suzhou Urban Construction Museum 苏州城建博物馆covers an area of 1,600 square meters and has several exhibition halls, including “Thousands-Year-Old City”, “Modern Suzhou”, “Urban Growth”, “Urban Meeting Room” and “City with One Hundred Museums”. It will soon open to the public on International Museum Day (May 18).
The 2nd Youth’s Handicrafts Exhibition

A total of 175 pieces/sets of exhibits falling into 17 categories including paper cutting, jade carving, bamboo carving, fan making and kesi are on display.
Fan Zhongyan and Suzhou Confucian Temple and School Stele Carving Exhibition
Venue: Suzhou Museum of Inscribed Stone Tablets 苏州碑刻博物馆
Date: May 25, 2022 (tentative)
Fan Zhongyan is a prominent figure in Suzhou in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The exhibition will showcase his contributions to Suzhou and the history of schools and education of the city.
Charming Mountains and Lakes – Zheng Diqing Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition
Venue: Wang Shigu Memorial Hall 王石谷纪念馆
Date: May 12 to June 20, 2022
Zheng Diqing is a painter based in Changshu. The exhibition mainly covers paintings of landscapes in Changshu.
Changshu Museum Collection of Yushan Seal Cutting
Venue: Exhibition Hall C1, Changshu Museum常熟博物馆
Date: May 12 to 31, 2022
Visitors can expect to feel the exquisiteness of seals cut by famous craftsmen in the past dynasties.
The Fair Ladies of Jiangnan – Paintings of Female Images from the Suzhou Museum
Venue: South Hall of Calligraphy and Painting Hall, Suzhou Museum 苏州博物馆
Date: March 8 – June 8
The exhibition has selected 23 paintings of fair ladies since the Qing dynasty from our collection to collaborate. The paintings are various in formats and rich in subjects, with an elegant and delicate style. It will provide visitors with access to the beauty of the fair ladies in the Jiangnan area since the Ming and Qing dynasties.
