A retrospective of the films by Pier Paolo Pasolini will be held in Suzhou from March 24 to 26. Seven films directed by Pasolini in the 1960s will be screened, showing the legendary career of the talented director.
Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the defining directors in Italy, earned a great reputation in the film industry. He was also a distinguished writer and film theorist, making important achievements in poetry and film semiotics.
The retrospective will feature seven classics by Pasolini. All will be screened in 4K, currently the highest resolution of Pasolini’s films, except The Gospel According to St. Matthew, which is in 2K.
All seven films are in their original languages and have English subtitles. There will be a total of 21 screenings at three theaters in Suzhou: Suzhou Arts Cineplex (Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre branch)苏艺影城(艺术中心店), Dushu Lake Theater独墅湖影剧院, and Omnijoi International Cinema (The Emerald City branch)幸福蓝海国际影城(苏州绿宝店绿宝广场).
Accattone (1961)
Written and directed by Pasolini, it’s his first feature and has distinct characteristics of neorealism.
Mamma Roma (1962)
Starring Anna Magnani known for her explosive acting, the film was nominated for Golden Lion and won Best Actress at Venice Film Festival 1962.

La ricotta is a short included in the anthology film Ro.Go.Pa.G.
Love Meetings (1964)
It is a feature-length documentary in which Pasolini traversed Italy in 1963 interviewing people and celebrities in public places.
The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964)
It is a biblical drama film and won the Venice Film Festival Grand Jury Prize and OCIC Award.
The Hawks and the Sparrows (1966)
The film has an experimental feel. The original score was composed by Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
Oedipus Rex (1967)
This is the first feature-length color film of Pasolini.
