Today is Valentine’s Day, and iSuzhou has prepared a special gift for foreign friends. The launching ceremony of the fourth edition of The Allure of Suzhou was held at Dawang Café情调苏州x大旺咖啡 in Wangshan scenic area this afternoon. Now expats in Suzhou have one more way to learn more about the city.
Suzhou is an ancient yet vibrant city. The 2,500-year-old city has high-quality innovation resources from home and abroad, numerous scientific and technological talents, and an array of scholars and artists. In recent years, Suzhou has held a number of international activities in such fields as culture, tourism, business and sports, and seen high-level development in global cooperation, attracting more and more people from overseas to travel, work, study and invest in the city.
The fourth edition of The Allure of Suzhou is jointly produced by the Information Office of Suzhou Municipal People’s Government and iSuzhou Studio. As an important window for the world to learn about the city, the book has a total of 11 chapters on classical gardens, the Grand Canal, the old city, local delicacies, the fashion code of the city, Taihu Lake, ancient towns, intangible cultural heritage, sports, destinations for family time, and useful information and tips, showcasing the natural scenery, cultural heritage and lifestyle unique to the city.
It is worth mentioning that compared with previous editions, the fourth edition has received feedback from expats before revising the articles, updating the information and adding new essays and chapters so that it can present a new Suzhou in a more comprehensive way.
From magazine journalist, college teacher, sports lover, member of an orchestra to “Suzhou old-timer” who has lived in the city for 16 years, multiple expats were invited to write down their stories about Suzhou. With experienced editors, the final book turns out to be more practical and interesting than the previous three editions.
In addition, the book has incorporated new elements in design. For example, you can pull the cover and find the colorful experiences of the book since its first edition was released.
“I’m very excited for this fourth edition as there are always new-to-me historical sites or new-to-Suzhou shops to explore,” said Dr Ellen Touchstone, associate dean for Responsible and Sustainable Business Education at the International Business School at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, on the launching ceremony.
“We love sending this book to our family and friends at home as well as our friends in other provinces in China. Thank you iSuzhou and the city of Suzhou for helping to make this city our home,” said Jeff Sootheran, owner of Suiyihui.
