Perhaps many of you have felt some new artistic vibes in the city recently: statues with original design around Jinji Lake, artistic installations in Niujia Lane, a whole new art center in Suzhou Bay, and more! Let’s have a quick look and see if any of them catch your eye.
Artistic statues around Jinji Lake
To upgrade the public artistic atmosphere around Jinji Lake, several statues rose up from the ground recently. Besides, the egret statue by the Dushu Lake has been equipped with lights to illuminate the area at night.
Located on the west side of Xiangzhang Park, the statue “Unicorn” is made up of three horses with different colors, measuring six, seven and eight meters, respectively. The blue, golden and red horses are exactly the reflection of the colorful life in the city.
The statue “Bunny the Ear” sits beside the lake-looping footpath to the east of Jinjihu Bridge and to the south of Linglongwan Garden. The two-meter tall bronze rabbit can lead us into a fairyland, where the hustle and bustle of city is left behind.
The statue “Egret” is situated on the east bank of Dushu Lake and the westernmost tip of Yueliangwan Road. When the night falls, the bank lights up, illuminating the statue. A poetic scene is thus unfolded before our eyes.
The public artistic statues perfectly integrate art with the city, evolving into a place where the public relax, reflect on the unique beauty of public art, and feel the city’s prosperity and development.
Niujia Lane art exhibition
Though the 3rd “I Paint Suzhou” Art Festival has concluded, its 17 art installations stay in the old lane.
Niujia Lane is located in the old town of Suzhou, where most residents are old-timers over 60. The traditions are kept, so is the lifestyle. The lane, however, also sits between Pingjiang Road and Guanqian Street, thus becoming a must-pass road for many tourists.
Based on the traditional culture, the artists aim to create works with modern styles while blending together the history and culture of Suzhou and their feelings toward the city.
Bainfootmark Art Center
Adjacent to Suzhou Bay Culture Center, Bainfootmark Art Center focuses on the cultivation of young artists, the promotion of China’s public art and the exchanges with the world, aiming to push forward the global development of China’s contemporary art with Suzhou Bay as the center. It has been open to the public since the end of last December.
Its first exhibition has invited 18 famous artists across the country to display works covering such fields as painting, installation, sculpture, film, pottery, jewelry, etc. As a new cultural symbol that combines economy, culture, fashion and trend, the exhibition represents the image and qualities of the center and even Suzhou Bay. It will be held till this March.
