Carrying food, beverages, toothpaste and other livelihood materials, the “Pinghu South-Taicang Port” express freight train arrived at Taicang Port yesterday. This is the first freight train from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Suzhou, marking the opening of a new logistics channel connecting the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta.
The express freight train will operate on a regular basis, running twice per week. Compared with the former transport model, the current one shortens the transport time by up to three days, which largely improves the efficiency and saves the cost.
A river port ranking 8th in container throughput nationwide and 25th worldwide, Taicang Port is linked to all domestic coastal ports, and ports along the Yangtze River and inland rivers in the country. Featuring intermodal rail-water freight, it has become a major transport hub globally.
