A parade of traditional Chinese clothes was held at St. Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy on Feb 17, local time. Volunteers from China and Italy put on hanfu made with silk from Suzhou, and showed to the audience, presenting the aesthetics of Chinese clothing and the allure of Suzhou culture.
The event was co-hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of Suzhou Municipal People’s Government, Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau of Suzhou Municipal People’s Government, Suzhou Silk Museum, the government of Venice, the Confucius Institute of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the organizing committee of Venice Carnival.
It is an important cultural exchange activity under the framework of friendship city, and Suzhou silk debuts in world-known carnival by means of parade and show.
“Thank Suzhou for bringing us such an incredible clothing show. The dresses are splendid in color and elaborate in design. They not only bring visual pleasure to the audience, but also bring elegance to the wearers. I hope this show can make them feel at home in Suzhou,” said Massimiliano De Martin, Deputy Mayor of Venice.
“Such an amazing show! This is the first show of traditional Chinese clothing at Venice Carnival. Since 1980, Venice has been an international friendship city of Suzhou. Our friendship has lasted for decades,” said Laura Fincato, Suzhou Honorary Citizen, Former Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy, and Former Deputy Mayor of Venice.
Venice Carnival opened on Feb 4 and till Feb 21. It is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.
