Suzhou-Kanazawa Intangible Cultural Heritage Exchange Exhibition & “Ten Sceneries of Grand Canal” Creative Production Exhibition was held at Gusu District Art Gallery yesterday morning.
Apart from local intangible cultural heritages as hair embroidery, Suzhou broidery, Taihu kiln, fruit pit carving, etc., nearly 40 pieces of Japanese gold-leaf crafts including jewelry boxes, drinking sets, tea sets, photograph frames and postcard boxes were placed on exhibition at the spacious and bright exhibition hall.
Suzhou was twinned with Kanazawa in 1981 and the year 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of Suzhou-Kanazawa friendship. Over the past four decades, the two cities have seen fruitful exchanges in such areas as economy, trade, culture, education and sports and forged a profound friendship.
“Kanazawa is a “capital of gold leaf” that boasts a nearly 100 percent market share in Japan. Gold leaf making is a traditional Japanese handicraft. We hope the exhibition can help people in Suzhou learn more about Japanese handicrafts and carry forward Suzhou-Kanazawa friendship.” said Kensei Okawa, director of Ishikawa Prefectural Government Shanghai Representative Office.
The exhibition is one of the serial activities held in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Suzhou-Kanazawa friendship. As to follow-up activities, Suzhou will host an exhibition on Suzhou traditional handicrafts in Kanazawa in July; the two cities will co-host an online session in August to enhance mutual understanding between Suzhou and Kanazawa.
The exhibition will last until June 27 (Sunday). Visitors can join in the gold-leaf postcard making session from 9am to 11:30am on June 26 and 27. Postcards are subject to availability (30 per day).
