The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has rolled out 10 Yangtze River-themed national tourist routes recently, covering Shanghai, Chongqing, and provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou. Many tourist spots from Suzhou were added to the routes.
Suzhou classical gardens added into the world culture heritage route along the Yangtze River
In 1997, with the Humble Administrator’s Garden, the Lingering Garden, the Master of Nets Garden, and the Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty as typical examples, Suzhou classical gardens as representatives of Chinese gardens were listed as World Heritage sites.
In 2000, Canglang Pavilion, the Lion Grove Garden, the Couple’s Retreat Garden, the Garden of Cultivation, and the Retreat & Reflection Garden were also listed as World Heritage sites.
Shajiabang Revolutionary History Memorial Hall added into the red tourism route along the Yangtze River

Shajiabang Yushan Shanghu Lake tourist area added into the natural ecology route along the Yangtze River
Shajiabang Yushan Shanghu Lake tourist area boasts a national ecological tourism demonstration zone, the Shanghu national urban wetland park, the Yushan national forest park and rich historical and cultural deposits and high quality natural resources such as intangible heritages of humanity and the nation’s key cultural relic protection sites.
Wuzhong Taihu Lake tourist area added into the landscape route along the Yangtze River
Situated by the bank of the Taihu Lake, Wuzhong Taihu Lake tourist area is comprised of ancient towns and villages, hills, and natural communities, covering many scenic areas and tourist spots such as the Dongshan scenic area, the home of Biluochun tea in China. In 2013, Wuzhong Taihu Lake tourist area became one of the national 5A tourist attractions.
Pingjiang historical block, Ligongdi tourism leisure block added into the urban leisure route along the Yangtze River
Featuring a checkerboard layout, rivers running next to streets, small bridges over the flowing streams, and white walls and black-tiled roofs, Pingjiang historical block is a hybrid of rich historical remains and human landscapes. It has one World Heritage site, two national level cultural relic protection sites, and over one hundred cultural relic sites at all levels.
The 1,400-meter-long Ligongdi tourism leisure block is a key component of the open national 5A tourist attraction of Jinji Lake scenic area. Since the opening in 2006, the block has promoted the booming business by cultural and tourism development in a bid to evolve into an international top-notch fashionable and dynamic block integrating culture, tourism and business.
