It is said that “two and a half halls have the world’s greatest arhat sculptures.” One of the halls is situated in the Zijin Temple, which boasts a history of over 1,400 years.
There are three Buddha statues in the center of the main hall, but the temple is best known for its 16 colored arhat sculptures. They were created by sculpture master Lei Chao and his wife in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279 AD) and are the cream of the Chinese sculpture art.
Luzhi Ancient Town is a go-to destination if you want to discover the remains of the Song Dynasty (960-1279 AD) in Suzhou. The 2500-year-old ancient water town grows more and more attractive with the passage of time.
Luzhi was hailed as “a town with 72 and a half bridges” in ancient times. Apart from ancient bridges, there is Baosheng Temple. As the half of the “two and a half halls”, it owns nine famous clay arhats sculptured in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) that remain to be the gems of ancient Chinese art.
